Bloomberg: Apple Postponed Its Camera Pendant, and Is Prototyping a Screenless Fitness Band

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Wearables, Rumors,

Concept render imagining a small Apple AI pendant clipped to a shirt. This is an artist's concept, not an actual Apple product.

An always-on camera hanging from your neck is a lot to ask of a person. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple has landed in roughly the same place, at least for now. Gurman says the company has postponed its AI pendant, the small camera-and-microphone wearable that was meant to feed Siri a live look at whatever is in front of you.

Gurman has described it as something you could hang around your neck, clip to your clothes, or wear on your body, with the camera doing the job your phone camera does now when you point it at a menu and ask what to order. Prototype descriptions in the reporting put it near the size of an AirTag, a thin disc of aluminum and glass with a button on the side. Apple has never announced it, never named it, and has said nothing about any of this.

Is the New iPhone Duo Worth It? Our Hands-on Impressions! (Video)

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Videos,

Four of us ran out of the Apple keynote and straight to the iPhone Duo demo tables (Tayllor Lloyd cleared a row of theater seats to get there), then sat down on Geared Up to argue about what we'd just held. Kevin the Tech Ninja, Miles Franklin, Tayllor, and I all walked away liking the folding iPhone. We didn't all walk away sure it's worth $2,000.

The New Apple Watch Reportedly Listens All Day, Then Recaps Your Life Back to You

Apple Watch Series 12 concept render, not an official Apple image

A watch that listens to your day and then hands it back to you as a tidy summary is either the most useful thing Apple has put on your wrist in years, or the reason you take the thing off. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports it is coming to the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, which Apple is expected to show at its Surprise and Shine event at 10AM PT today.

The watch reportedly uses its microphone alongside GPS and its other sensors to pick up what you are doing, then generates a daily recap: what you ate, when you worked out, who you spent time with, and summaries of the conversations you had. Gurman reports the recaps live inside the new Siri app, so you can ask about your own day and get an answer. Apple has confirmed none of this. We find out in a couple of hours how much of it survives contact with an actual keynote.

The Ceramic Apple Watch Might Be Coming Back

apple watch series 12 ceramic

Every year around this time, the Apple rumor mill produces one story that fans want to be true so badly that it spreads faster than its sourcing deserves. This year it is the ceramic Apple Watch.

The claim: Apple will bring back a ceramic case with the Apple Watch Series 12, expected at next month's September event. It would be the first ceramic Watch since the Series 5 Edition in 2019. It is a genuinely appealing idea. It is also, at the moment, one post on X.

Apple Just Raised Trade-In Values, and It’s Taking Android Phones Now

Apple Trade In program graphic

Apple raising trade-in values is normally a footnote. Apple raising trade-in values roughly a month before its biggest launch of the year, with some devices jumping close to 30 percent, is a strategy.

The company updated its U.S. trade-in estimates today, lifting the numbers for most iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models compared to the last revision in May. It also added several Android phones to the list for the first time.

You Won’t Believe What’s Inside Your Apple Watch (It’s Insane!)

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Wearables, Videos,

The Apple Watch should not work as well as it does. It's a metal box strapped to a salty bag of water, stuffed with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, cellular, and now even satellite radios - and somehow it still gets a signal when you really need it. So Apple took me underneath Apple Park, into the quietest, strangest rooms in the building, to show how they bend physics so that little square on your wrist can actually save you when things go wrong.

In this video I take you inside Apple's RF labs. There is a silent blue spike chamber where the team tunes antennas down to the level of screws, a human test rig that spins real people around to see how different bodies kill the signal, and an underground GNSS dome that fakes the sky so they can test satellite SOS and dual frequency GPS without leaving the building. This is the engineering work that makes your Apple Watch Ultra 3, Series 11, or SE 3 feel boring in the best possible way when you are lost on a trail or stuck on the side of the road.

If you have ever wondered what is actually happening inside that small piece of teach on your wrist when it says connecting to satellite, or why your watch can hold a call at the gym where your phone used to drop, this is the tour that explains it.
